Arrival Time

Please arrive at Lakeside no earlier than 3:15pm Friday. Note that classes are in session and arrivals before 3:15 will interfere with buses and regular dismissal patterns. We will work hard to finish your chess registration by 3:45pm, thank you!

Format

Five round Swiss system, computer paired, (no knockouts). Open to any student registered in grades 9-12 in Washington.

Two sections, using ratings found on the web site http://www.whsca.org:

Note: The director reserves the right to change rating parameters to balance numbers in the sections.

Note: Players who may have received high first time and provisional ratings may request to play in the Reserve section. These requests will be granted or refused on an individual basis.

Note: When entering, put O (OPEN) or R (RESERVE) before each player's name to indicate his/her choice of section.

Schedule

All players check in by 3:45pm Friday. Players checking in after 3:45pm risk forfeiting round one.

Friday rounds 4:15 pm, 7:45 pm

Saturday rounds: 9 am, 1 pm, 5 pm

Time Control

90 minutes per player per game (G/90 w/5-sec delay preferred). Recording is required.

Concessions

No concessions on site.

Bring

We have a lot of sets and boards, but please bring clocks, writing utensils and sets for you to use in the skittles area.

Awards

Winner of the Open Section receives the title of High School Champion of the State of Washington. The state champion will receive $1000.00 of monetary support from the Washington High School Chess Association and may receive some additional funds from the Washington Chess Federation to attend the Arnold Denker Tournament of High School State Champions.

An appropriate number of trophies will be awarded to individuals in each section. Medals to best performers at each grade. One award per player.

Note: Ties for first in the Open Section are broken by a G/90 playoff held later in the year. If there is a tie for 1st Place in the Reserve Section there will be a speed chess playoff (Game in 3 minutes with a 2 second delay).

Entry Fee

$12 to be paid at check-in.

NO phone, fax or mailed entries. ALL must enter in advance by email! 100% advance entry only!

For each player entering please provide their first and last name with their NWSRS ID number. If the player is unrated or their NWSRS ID number is unknown, then you must indicate their school and the current grade the student is in. Note: When entering, put O (OPEN) or R (RESERVE) before each player's name to indicate his/her choice of section.

Half Point Byes

One-half point bye available for Friday afternoon and/or evening if you can't make it both days; one-half point bye available for round 3 on Sat a.m. Only two half point byes available. Request for HPB must be made with advance registration or at check-in. No half point byes for rounds 4 and 5.
