Eligibility
Open to any student registered in grades 9-12 in Washington State.
Format
Five round Swiss system in three sections using NWSRS ratings published at www.ratingsnw.com:
- CHAMPIONSHIP:
Rated 1600 and over, and any other player desiring to play for the title of State Champion.
Dual NWSRS and USCF rated, USCF membership required. Save time! Join USCF or renew at www.uschess.org. - PREMIER: Rated 1200 - 1599, and any other player rated less than 1200 desiring the tougher competition.
- RESERVE: Rated 1199 and under only, and new, unrated, inexperienced players.
Note: The director reserves the right to change rating parameters to balance numbers in the sections.
Note: Players who may have received high first time and provisional ratings may request to play in the Reserve section. These requests will be granted or refused on an individual basis.
Schedule
Please arrive between 3:15 and 3:45 pm on Friday January 23rd.
All players are required to check in by 3:45 pm Friday. Players checking in after 3:45pm will risk forfeiting round one.
Friday rounds 4:15 pm, 7:45 pm
Saturday rounds: 9 am, 1 pm, 5 pm (these times are firm)
Time Control
90 minutes per player per game (Game/90 with 5-sec delay preferred). Recording is required.
Concessions
No concessions on site, but many options are available close by.
Bring
Chess clocks, writing utensils, and chess sets for the skittles area.
Bring your USCF ID number if you're playing in the Championship section.

Awards
Winner of the Championship Section receives the title of High School Champion of the State of Washington. The state champion will receive $250 of monetary support from the Washington High School Chess Association and $500 of monetary support from the Washington Chess Federation to attend the Arnold Denker Tournament of High School State Champions to be held in conjuction with the 2015 US Open.
An appropriate number of trophies will be awarded to individuals in each section. Players that score at least 3.5, but do not place high enough to earn a trophy, will be awarded a chess medal.
Note: Ties for first place in the Championship Section will be resolved later in the year by a G/90 playoff game.
If there is a tie for first place in the Premier or Reserve Section, it will be resolved in a speed chess playoff
(game in 3 minutes with a 2 second delay).
Entry Fee
$25 for the Championship section to be paid online or at check-in.
$15 for the Premier and Reserve sections to be paid online or at check-in.
ALL must enter in advance by online registration or by email by Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 8:00 pm.
100% advance entry only. No phone, fax or postal mail entries.
Half Point Byes
One-half point bye available for Friday afternoon and/or evening if you can't make it both days; one-half point bye available for round 3 on Saturday morning. Only two half point byes available. Request for HPB must be made with advance registration or at check-in. No half point byes for rounds 4 and 5.
